Climate Smart Initiatives Update
LivingADK just crossed the 10-citizen threshold in its active solar conversion campaign with the Town of Webb.  With 10 signups, the Town of Webb will be submitting for a $5000 grant through NYSERDA to help expand its solar efforts.  These include both signing up more citizens to solar conversion and using the funds to install 3 Electric Vehicle charging stations (McCauley Mountain, Eagle Bay Visitor Center, Old Forge Public Restrooms).
Although we are excited about hitting our goals, the option is still open town wide to all citizens to save money on your energy bills both at home and at your business. Just visit  and signup.  Savings comes out to around $20 a month and you don't need to change your National Grid provider.  Takes about 5 minutes to complete, and along with monthly savings you are also entitled to a $100 gift card.  Take the few moments to ensure that the electrical energy that comes through your National Grid lines is sourced from solar farms and not fossil fuel.  Save the planet and save your wallet!

Birthing ADKWORKFORCE:
LivingADK Continues Efforts to Connect Route 28 Businesses to Employers

As part of our regional mission, LivingADK looks for joint efforts to maximize impact, and ADKworkforce is an effort to bring together the mutual needs of the Inlet Area Business Association and the Central Adirondack Assocation.  Andy Frey, proprietor of the Woods Inn in Inlet, NY has begun to create a one-stop-shop hiring website that can only be accessed and used by employers in the Central Adirondack Regional Corridor.  With the help of LivingADK, Andy has already successfully solicited funds from the CAA to build the website and we will follow up by soliciting funds from the IABA.  This joint effort would allow IABA members and CAA members a level of exclusive access to the hiring website where employers and job seekers can interact about posted positions, conduct online interviews and find out information about the area.  As the world becomes more connected online, there is a need to connect the gap between job seekers that look exclusively to online job boards to find employment, and employers in the region that still predominantly rely on more traditional ink-and-paper and phone call connections.  By offering a single website, employers in the area can all share 1 location to job seekers so that we can streamline what is right now a free-for all of individual craigslist ads, newspaper ads, Facebook posts, website posts all conducted separately by individual employers.  This effort will help propel the Western Central Adirondack hiring process into the 21st century and hopefully have a positive impact, to some degree, on workforce shortages in our area.

LivingADK was awarded $5000 to help in the creation of its housing initiatives, specifically in an effort to create a deed restriction program.  The Generous Acts Grant was awarded in-line with the mission of:

"
We seek applications that are mindful of underserved populations, help address racial, economic, or other disparities, and demonstrate collaboration and community buy-in.  As the social and economic impacts of COVID-19 persist, we recognize the importance of working together toward a brighter, more inclusive future. Generous Acts grants are single-year competitive awards focused on meeting pressing needs or investing in long-term change in the following priority areas."

LivingADK would like to thank deeply the Adirondack Foundation for the incredible work that they fund around the Adirondack park, and their donors that help make their work possible.  LivingADK will continue build a deed restriction program in an effort to recalibrate housing ratios in our community to maximize benefits to stakeholder.

GRANT APPLICATION CENTER

What's New.....
1) As part of our Climate Smart initiatives, LivingADK has completed a successful solar conversion campaign opening up the Town of Webb for a $5,000 Climate Smart grant.  This grant will be rolled into efforts to complete Electric Vehicle charging stations in Old Forge.

2) In conjunction with the Hiltebrant Pavilion Committee, LivingADK is aiding in a grant request for $133,000 in March from the Wadas Foundation to help expand the potential uses of the Hiltebrant Pavillion year-round as a community athletic center.

3) LivingADK submitted to the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties today a $10,000 grant proposal in support of the budding LivingADK Housing Committee's deed restriction program.
Survey Corner Reminder: Be Heard! Help the various ongoing efforts in our area by sharing!

1) Housing Condition Survey

This newly released survey through Town of Webb is slated to explore the condition of our housing stock in the area.  Could there be grants to fix up dilapidated structures? Grants to modify 3 season camps to year round housing?  Funding from the state and federal government requires data on need, so to access grant funds to pursue these efforts, we first need a financial understanding of where our housing stock is as a community and what monies would help preserve/expand that stock.

2) Co-Housing Survey

(Launched December) to determine demand for a new program connecting older homeowners to "host" housemates in exchange for rent in the form of payment/chores in an effort to keep seniors in their home while offering (some) additional affordable housing options.
